The Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems Center at Indiana University School of Medicine provides comprehensive care for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and studies the causes, course of recovery and outcomes after traumatic brain injury. Model Systems National Database is a prospective, longitudinal multi-center study which examines the course of recovery and outcomes following the delivery of a coordinated system of acute neurotrauma and inpatient rehabilitation. Objective: To characterize and compare subgroups of survivors with assault-related versus self-inflicted traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) via firearms at the time of inpatient rehabilitation and at 1-, 2-, and 5-year follow-up. This database is used to study the factors that predict recovery and outcomes of TBI. VCU will continue to collect data for the National Database, and will lead and participate in multi-center, collaborative efforts to examine TBI outcomes and prognostic indicators. long-term consequences of TBI. 1 The TBIMS National Database (TBIMS-NDB) contains information on cases treated in TBIMS-funded centers since 1988. 2.1 History.
